Chaplains support public display of Bible at Manchester Veterans Medical Center
MANCHESTER, NH— The following quote may be attributed to Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty Executive Director Chaplain (COL) Phil Wright, USA retired regarding inclusion of a Bible on a POW/MIA remembrance table at a veterans medical center in Manchester, NH VA Medical Center:
“As Chaplains, we offer our overwhelming support for a public display of the Bible as part of a POW/MIA display. We concur with First Liberty Institute’s letter requesting the Bible be left in place and warning that removal could constitute a violation both of the U.S. Constitution and VA policy. The Bible is considered a sacred book by three major world religions, not just Christianity, and has brought profound comfort to prisoners of war during the darkest of times during their captivity. It would be a tragedy to allow one group’s extreme, antagonistic view of this symbol to erase or hide the faith that has inspired the courage, faithfulness and sacrifice of our POW/MIAs.”
Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty is an organization of chaplain endorsers, the religious faith groups that provide chaplains for the U.S. military, and other agencies needing chaplains. The endorsers in the Chaplain Alliance collectively endorse more than two-thirds of the 5,500 military chaplains serving in the Armed Forces.
