Chaplains commend Trump administration memo on military transgender policy
WASHINGTON — Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty commended the Trump administration this week for its decision to further clarify its policy concerning service in the military by transgender individuals.
“The Commander in Chief’s first duty is to ensure that the full attention of the military is on defending America and its allies,” said Chaplain (COL) Phil Wright, USA (Retired), executive director of Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty. “With threats like ISIS, the Taliban, Al Qaida, and North Korea, the president is right to prioritize combat readiness and to place that ahead of political correctness. This includes re-evaluating any voluntary, highly controversial, and costly procedures that lay a burden on an already-overtaxed military health care system, which has a primary duty to serve our men and women in uniform and those who are injured in the line of duty. The president's order refines his original guidance prioritizing our military's essential mission and provides a pathway to achieve that readiness.”
Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty is an organization of chaplain endorsers, the faith groups that provide chaplains for the U.S. military and other agencies needing chaplains. The endorsers in Chaplain Alliance speak for more than 2,600 chaplains serving the Armed Forces.
