Same-sex ceremony in military chapel
raises need for congressional action
WASHINGTON — Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty is expressing concern over a recent “same-sex ceremony” conducted in a military chapel at Fort Polk, La. A chaplain conducted the ceremony for two female soldiers.
“While the ceremony was not a marriage, it is clear that this was in fact a marriage-like ceremony, and it was performed on a military base in a state that has a clear definition of marriage in their state law,” said Dr. Ron Crews, executive director for Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty.
The ceremony highlights the need for legislation recently passed by the House of Representatives that makes clear the intent of Congress that military facilities will not be used for same-sex “marriages” or other marriage imitations.
“The Department of Defense is bowing to a political agenda to turn our nation’s military into a social experiment,” said Crews. “It is time for the American public to say, ‘Enough!’”
Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty is an organization of chaplain endorsers, the faith groups that provide chaplains for the U.S. military and other agencies needing chaplains. The endorsers in Chaplain Alliance speak for more than 2,600 chaplains serving the Armed Forces.
