Chaplain Goetz Post Office Ceremony

The Christian and Missionary Alliance:

The Briargate post office that the Alliance National Office has used in Colorado Springs since 1998 will be renamed in honor of a fallen Army Chaplain (Captain) Dale Goetz this coming July 23rd, 2021 at 10:00 am.

In 2020, the U.S. Senate unanimously approved Colorado Congressman Doug Lamborn's legislation to rename the post office in honor of the fallen chaplain who was assigned to Fort Carson but deployed to Afghanistan in 2010.

Heavy with meaningful symbolism, there are located at the front gates of Fort Carson what I like to call Stones Of Remembrance. Listed there are the names of the casualties from actions in serving our country during these last 20 years during the conflict in the Middle East and Afghanistan. Dale Goetz’s name is on those stones.

On August 30, 2010, Chaplain Dale Goetz and four of his teammates were traveling in a convoy in southern Afghanistan when they were killed by an improvised explosive device. Tragically, this made Dale Goetz the 1st chaplain KIA (Killed In Action) since the Vietnam War.

Dale Goetz was 43 years old, a Baptist and graduate of Maranatha Baptist Bible College in Watertown, Wis. Even though Dale was not an Alliance chaplain, I am honored to be part of a Chaplain Corps and organization that not only strongly supports its chaplains but also has been blessed with such another amazing connection with our military chaplain history.

So, for the last 23 years, “Always efficient, conveniently located and close enough to our mail room for bulk deliveries.” says our Alliance Postmaster Jim Ladle the postal staff and our own denomination have been making the connection with sacred, professional service as they have “delivered the mail”.

Thank you, Briargate post office.  And thank you Dale Goetz for your service!

Read the heroic story.
