WASHINGTON — Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty will honor Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, and Rep. John Fleming, a member of the committee, with the “Torchbearer” award for their work in protecting the religious liberties of all military personnel.

“We are delighted to present our Torchbearer Award to these men for their faithful stand to protect service members’ God-given, constitutionally protected religious liberties. No American, especially those who wear the uniform, should be denied their religious liberties,” said Chaplain (COL) Ron Crews, USA Retired, executive director of Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty.

The Torchbearer Award is awarded to individuals who have helped carry high the torch of religious liberty for all service members. This is the first year the award has been issued.

Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty is an organization of chaplain endorsers, the faith groups that provide chaplains for the U.S. military and other agencies needing chaplains. The endorsers in Chaplain Alliance speak for more than 2,600 chaplains serving the Armed Forces.
